Introduction

This area of the Observatory is being developed to pull together qualitative or ‘soft’ data to complement the numerical statistics and indicators on the District presented elsewhere within the site. Together the information can be used to produce a more rounded picture of local conditions and priorities not just through the interpretation of statistics but also through the eyes of local communities.

Consultation and Research database and calendar

Many forms of consultation currently take place within the District as well as broader consultations which may impact upon the District. The Observatory will contain a database of past research and consultation activity as well as a ‘calendar’ of current and planned work. The aim is not only to share more widely the findings from consultations but also to build a culture of better coordinated work between public agencies along key lines of enquiry in order to better use the resources currently invested in research, surveys and other types of consultation. The end result should be:

  1. Better joined up information made more widely available
  2. A reduction in the burden on citizens of multiple uncoordinated surveys and resulting “Consultation fatigue”
  3. Higher levels of public participation in the decision making process
  4. Better use of public resources

Communities of Interest
Communities of Interest are groups of people who share a common interest, concern or identity. Unlike many groups, Communities of Interest cannot always be defined by a particular geographical area.
